WI: Anarchist Spain

IOTL, Anarchism was very popular in Spain-more so than in any other European nation, according to Wikipedia. Spain also happened to be very politically unstable for the majority of the years 1850-1950. So I ask you-what if an Anarchist uprising succeeded in Spain? What would such an Anarchist Spain look like? When would it be most likely to arise? If such a state appeared before 1898, what would become of Cuba and the Philippines? How would other nations react to this Anarchist Spanish state?

The 1930s would probably be a better bet for this to succeed. I don't even think there were strong 'anarchist' movements in Spain during the period you're looking at.

Quite true. But a successful "Anarchist Spain" might require a POD before the 1900's. Does the OP realize that the historical Anarcho-Syndicalist movements in Spain were really only ever strong in Catalonia and Aragon?

They were the strongest there, but the Anarchist had plenty of strength in Andalucia and Valencia, even in Galicia.

It's to be noted that in the 30s, the CNT (the anarchist union in Spain) grew to have more than one million members. To compare, nowadays the hegemonic leftist party, the PSOE, has less than 400,000 members. Sadly i can't find the numbers of membership during the II Republic, but i'd infer they wouldn't reach the million by far.
What has disguised the relevance of the anarchism in Spain is that, for obvious ideological reasons, there was no political party to represent them in the elections. The sympathizers that would have voted for such a party if it had existed divided between abstention and voting for leftist options.

Personally I read that the anarchist movement in Spain was growing even up to 1936 so all you need is another few years without a civil war, of course WWII is an issue here.
