WI america was more prepared at pearl harbor?

There are two scenarios I can think of that could mitagate damage.

1) Planes more spread out.
2) Planes in storage.

Either way america could have had faster air assistance.

don't forget a couple other things too:

-Better trained radar operators on the island

-The war department suddenly realizing that attacks can come early on a sunday morning and have their forces at pearl at full readyness when the Japanese get there.

Check out my Pacific War Redux TL or Marcus' The History of the Malaya Campaign for a couple different views on this.

If

the American battle line sorties, it probably gets sunk in deep water off Hawaii with horrendous casualties. The IJN pilots were VERY good in 12/'41.

More airpower effectively used means the Americans begin to attrite the IJN's pilots a little sooner. Could have consequences to Kido butai's capaigns of early '42.

And Cal Bear's TL is a nice piece of work. Check it out.

I was going to suggest Lahania Roads anchorage as a way to disperse the fleet, but according to the worlds most accurate academic resource, Wiki, the IJN was keen to have a major ship or two there because of the deep water.
