A lot of prestige for her to start with.
She's a few things in her future she could choose from after that-lecture tours, marriage, other piloting challenges.
Didn't the disappearance add to the mystique? No one has heard of Cochrane.
Those people who are only interested in pop culture will know the name Earhart as the woman who disappeared. Those people who are interested in history, aviation history, and women in aviation history will and do know the name Jackie Cochran.
I could see that. for sure doing stuff to sell war bonds during the war.Might she have been involved with Jackie Cochrane ferrying aircraft to Europe, or other long duration flights during the war? Her credibility and name recognition would have helped smooth the path for including more female pilots in that critical work.

She knew Lindbergh pretty well (early on she was considered a feminine clone of him, something she did not really appreciated). Because of his age and prestige (and also his pro-Nazi statements...) Lindbergh didn't do much in WWII, except some missions over the Pacific.
If she survives the flight, at what point does any public disclosure happen about any aerial espionage work she may have/may not have done for the US government? God knows there's a cottage industry sprung up around the multitude of ideas on that front. After WW2? 25 to 50 years later? Only by Freedom of Information Act?
It's kind of a one-way deal: some government record acknowledges that Earhart or Noonan took some grainy oblique photos of Japanese held islands - that's one thing. If she didn't make that conscious diversion from her listed flight path, she could address that claim herself in person. Whether or not that sways the conspiracy theory folks is an altogether different deal. "Ha! Her denial only proves she was a spy. "Why would there be any public disclosure of aerial espionage work she may not have done? There's also a cottage industry for Bigfoot, Noah's Ark, Nessie, Aliens, Nazi flying bells et al.

Maybe she got booted out of the alien mother ship's dead-letter-office several years later and crashed near Roswell. Ya never know, do ya?"
Total bullshit.
Ah bravo c'est malin !
I meant that Earhart spying sounds pretty stupid theory to me. Wasn't it debunked a long time ago ?
