Maybe a mixed version of that, the similar Korean jijimgae, and okonomiyaki (Osakan 'savory pancake' with mixed ingredients - ususally pork and veg) brought back by GIs or a larger Korean/Japanese immigrant population.Maybe Chinese immigrants on the east or west coast popularize cong yu ping (scallion cakes) as a street food ?

Chinese food?Pizza is a food of foreign origin that became the ubiquitous, go-to foodstuff for Americans. It dominated as the food of convenience and take out long before fast food chains, and is the go to for parties and other occasions. What other things could have filled this niche instead?
Bureks are amazing, I'd rather have them than pizza almost any time. Unfortunately for me, the only place I've found that sell any worth my while is the Farmer's Market in Rutland, Vermont. Around 6 hours from where I live. I may love the stuff but I'm not gonna drive for 12 hours just to get something to eat.
