WI: Alexander or his Diadochi successors expands Greek/Macedonian borders to the Western Danube?

Basically as the tin says, what if Alexander the Great or one of his Diadochi successors had pushed Greek/Macedonian hegemony to the Western Danube by conquering Illyria? Would the Greek language be able to become more entrenched that far north? If Rome still conquered the area in the coming centuries, what would potential impacts be?

Interesting. The only issue is that they need to subjugate too many tribes en route. That would be quite difficult.

Actually, the Macedonian Empire did reach into the Danube. And also, the kingdom of one of the successor's, that of Lysimachus, also extended to the Danube.

And the kingdom that emerged from it is the Kingdom of Thrace. It became a client kingdom of Rome that was only annexed in A.D. 46.

I guess to clarify I meant conquering the rest of Illyria

By "Danube" do you mean the Balkan peninsula?

The best scenario I can see for this is to win over the Thracians and establish a firmly Hellenized province like Anatolia and then proceed to Dacia and Pannonia alongside Illyricum. Impossible in a single lifetime. Could take a minimum of three generations if they don't want to loose out against the Barbarians.

I've just never seen the term "Western Danube" before. I've seen that area called the Western Balkans plenty of times, but "Western Danube" is definitely a new one.

I meant as in conquer up to the Western portion of the Danube River basin... like how the Eastern portion is below Dacia
