As you probably know, Alexander the Great was kinda of a big deal. He controlled a huge (an incredibly unstable) empire stretching from Greece to India. It was in India that his troops finally said enough was enough and forced him to turn around. But let's say that Alexander is able to force his army a little further and ends up fighting the Nanda empire. The battle is a massacre and for once it's Alexander's side that loses. Alexander dies in battle along with a lot of his men. Most of the men who escape disappear into the mountains and jungles of northern India and are never heard from again.
So to recap: Alexander dies, most of his army is scattered and unable to return to Babylon. What happens next? Will Alex be presumed dead immediately or will his generals hold out hope for his return? One idea I had was taking the medieval Alexander Romances up to 11 and having a cult form around Alexander and the idea that he would one day return from India to forge another great empire.
Anyway, wanted to get some ideas for what might happen. I know very little about India at the time to be honest, but I wanted to see if anyone here had some more ideas for this scenario.
