WI: Alabama Claims

Was British Columbia worth 15 million? More. I highly doubt it would ever happen. GB wasn't in debt, they were obviously able to pay money. The US was happy to accept it.

The UK smashes the USA in the war that follows as sure as night follows from day, the South explodes like a grenade. And this requires Ulysses S. Grant to die from one of the assassination attempts made on him as he was interested in arbitration, not war. Or alternately Andrew Johnson to do something very, very, very, very stupid. If this refers to the UK *selling* this there's the minor issue of Polk settling the USA's Oregon Territory borders decades ago by this point.

Borders are meant to be broken.

More like Canada gets conquered with the an army comprising just as many Confederate Generals as Union Generals. Longstreet was back in the US Army and Nathan Bedford Forrest requested a commission from the President in OTL. ITTL he gets it. I doubt the south would really consider rebellion again more likely they get an earlier end to reconstruction.

I am not sure that the US was in a possition to fight a war with the largest empire on earth. Assuming that they did invade British Columbia and beat the Canadians / British army.

The next set is for London to cut off their credit and withdraw monetary aid from it's companies, your are forgetting the amount of private investment in the US by the Brits (at least 15% of the industrial power of the US was UK owed).

closely followed by a blockade of all the Atlantic ports by the RN.

A country that is recovering from a civil war is not able hold out long in these circumstances, particularly if the rest of the world considers them in the wrong (i.e. no external support).

My guess is economic melt down with every state for itself. So the Brits don't have to invade to win, just wait for the enevitable to occur.

post ACW is not an auspicious time for the US to take on the UK. Even though the US has a fairly big and solid army of veterans, at sea it's just no contest... the RN can blockade and ruin the US without landing a single soldier...
