WI/AHC/PC: Protestant Reformation in Catholic Church

If it's possible for enough Protestants to overwhelm the Catholic Church to the point it's forced to face structural and theological reforms to match up to Protestant views how would this affect things? Would Protestants return to the Church pleased that it now fits their views? What other affects?

If it's not an internal reformation ie where the Protesters stayed (/felt they could stay) within the Church then it'd have to be early enough that bridges haven't been burnt.

Counter Reformation was meant to attack Protestantism. A Protestany Reformstion within the Catholic Church actually strengthens the Reformation.

The Counter Reformation was meant to attack SOME of the reasons Protestants left the church and to expand the reach of missionaries. Not to directly attack Protestants.

Here's my point.

I'm saying that the Reformation is much more successful to the point Protestants begin taking control of the Catholic Churxh through conflict or whatever plausible reason. Then they enforce stuctural and theological changes that eliminates the aspects they hated and are why they separated in the first place. Many Protestants are pleased that most of their ideologies have now become the mainstay of the Catholic Church and thereby are happy to return to it.

You would have to get the College of Cardinals to actually listen to Martin Luther. He want Church reform, but wanted it to happen from within. He nailed his 95 Thesis to the door of the Wittenburg Cathedral because the Cardinals didn't want to listen. The question is, how do you do that?
