WI/AHC: No Treaty of Tordesillas

I've been searching for ideas regarding an ATL where there is no pre-signed agreement between the Portuguese and Castillian/Spanish dividing claims in the new world.
There are many POD's that could prevent such a treaty from coming into effect, but let's keep them from 1400 onwards.
I'd also like to see your opinion on how this would affect not only portuguese and castillian colonization strategies, but from other european powers that take interest too.

The idea, if I remember right, happened after a conflict whose one of the causes was spanish encroaching in Guinea and disputes for the islands near Europe.

No Tordesillas, the Spanish have more reason to just use the eastern route to India.

Also it means less cooperation against other encroaching european powers. It also means the Portuguese can and will go into north america more often.

Perhaps we see a portuguese caribbean colony.

This might also butterfly Cortez's conquests.

Wasn't there a Papal Bull that demarcated Spanish and Portuguese claims slightly before?

You are correct.

Remember that when the Bull Intercoetera and Tordesillas were made people had actually no idea that they were dividing the world, they were just trying to avoid further trouble concerning the Atlantic Islands (the Azores, Madeira, the Canaries., etc.). IF Portugal manages to keep ALL these islands to itself (as it almost did), there would be no reason to make a treaty with Castille about it.

EDIT: Well, to be clear, when the bull was signed the Spanish just have landed in the Americas, they didn't expect it to be so huge. The Portuguese probably knew something about Brazil and that's why they pushed for Tordesilhas. I bet they didn't know it was a continent either. Both nations were probably expecting just some small islands.
