WI/AHC: Munich War?

First question: What sort of changes could plausibly cause Britain and France to go to war over Hitler's demands on Czechoslovakia?

Second question: What is the likely outcome/timeframe of such a war? What effects would it have more widely, eg. on Romania, Finland, the Pacific?

Although there is considerable ASB in the Hitler's War series
, I think Harry Turtdove had a plausible scenario for a war starting in fall 1938.

His POD was plausible but things go rapidly downhill after that. It isn't too hard to imagine Hitler going too far with his demands, after all he wanted and expected a war with the Czechs.

I think that Hitler attacks the Western Front in April 1939. tThe German Forces are not as well prepared they are stopped in France.' There is s stalemate. Hitler gets very frustrated by July he begins massive unrestricted submarine warfareThe United States presidentialelection. In November, Congress declares war. tThe AEF arrives a year later. In September 1941, Germany surrenders. sSince never surrenders, the Japanese never invade Indo China. sSanctions don't escalate. tThere is no Pacific War.

He did, and I seem to recall reading a book of his along those lines.

If the Czechs were invited to Munich and refused, and the British and French were inclined to support them, it's quite possible the next great European conflict could have begun in 1938 with German troops storming into the mountainous terrain of the Sudetenland. While the Czechs may have fallen initially even with British and French support, I honestly believe the Germans would have done much worse than they did IOTL in the end, since they had a very extensive list of preparations to make for the conflicts Hitler envisioned at that time.

Bottom line - If the Czechs refused, it would most likely lead to an earlier war, whether London and Paris wanted one or not.
