Although this is about politics (not a topic I have a great understanding of) in some way, it's more about geography.

Here, I'm looking at enclaves and exclaves, as detailed at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_enclaves_and_exclaves

The enclaves/exclaves can be any of these types:
  • Enclaves that are also exclaves
  • Exclaves that are not enclaves
  • Enclaves that are not exclaves
  • Semi-enclaves and semi-exclaves
In OTL, there seem to be many of these, although I'm still going through the list on Wikipedia. (I'm doing my research, basically, but slowly, on this topic).

This is both a WI and an AHC.

This is a WI where the POD isn't set in stone, you choose the POD, but the event (enclave/exclave) is a pre-determined one for the sake of this discussion.

I'm trying to get some sort of "hard" alternate history, per the sliding scale of alternate history plausibility mentioned on the AH Wiki.

I'm largely focusing on the United Kingdom and United States, but any nation can be used in this challenge, and if you have maps or are good at designing them, feel free to include, just state which type of enclave/exclave yours is.

In OTL, there were very few in the United Kingdom due to the Local Government Act 1972 (but there were county exclaves until 1931, as seen at List of county exclaves in England and Wales on Wikipedia, which allows this to be in Alternate History Discussion: After 1900), and in the U.S. I believe they were fairly common due to cities seceding from major ones or not wanting to be part of the major city (am I right in thinking San Fernando and Culver City are enclaves due to wanting to be independent of Los Angeles politically)?

I would be interested to see what you can come up with, provided you can find a good/valid reason for the enclave/exclave to exist in the ATL and some history of the area. Doesn't have to be anything grand, but as long as it's not just a post of a map with no detail (I wouldn't post a map with no detail - unless it's a discussion that allows that).

This is a collaborative thread, and I'll be interested to see what you can come up with.
