First off, Edward VIII married pretty late in life - to Wallis Simpson - (he was in his 40s already, she only a few years younger). Now, I've seen the oft-cited discussion that any marriage plans for David from BEFORE WWI with a German princess were scuppered by said war, and that's understandable.

However, there were a massive amount of "pet" royals in England: mostly descendants of Queen Victoria in some form or fashion (Battenbergs, Schleswig-Holsteins, etc), but also Princes of Wurttemberg-Teck (relatives of Queen Mary), and one or two of the Saxe-Weimar boys set up shop in Britain and did none too badly for themselves, courtesy of their aunt, Queen Adelaide. These girls could hardly arouse any anti-German sentiment, since most of them came from families who had given up their German names/rights/titles with the war. Then there's the fact that only one of David's siblings his youngest brother, the duke of Kent - married dynastically.

Then, there were numerous families in the English and Scots' aristocracy who could claim royal descent - most from the wrong side of the blanket of Charles II or William IV. And yet, it seems that in spite of all these possibly eligible matches, David was destined to remain single until he fell into Peaches' (Wallis Simpson) arms. So, who would be a good candidate (I'm open to foreign matches, but I don't think it's really the way the wind is blowing) for David to marry if he goes to the altar in the period 1920-1925?
