I've been thinking, would David's marriage to a Catholic in the 1920s really cause that much of a stir? I don't recall reading that his uncle (Eddy)'s engagement to Helene d'Orléans actually caused anything of a sensation of anti-Catholicism (but that could be that it was known that it would be unlikely or that it was painted as a love match - one of Queen Victoria (I think it was her eldest) daughter's marriages was decidedly unpopular, but the reasoning ran that if it were painted as a "love match" the public would come around to the idea). Especially if said Catholic girl is also British?
