The Viet Cong were virtually liquidated as a fighting force after the Tet offensive and thus the NVA (North Vietnamese Army) stated a full on insurgency from their bases north of the DMZ supplied by the Ho-Ci-Minh trail.

What if Agent ORANGE was used on the border areas of Vietnam straddling Cambodia & Laos, so as to interdict supplies to the NVA and what's left of the VC?

The plan I'm thinking of requires 2 parts.

Phase 1

Agent ORANGE sprayed on the entire Vietnam/Cambodian border, roughly to a width of 2 miles across. This area will then be covered by anti-personnel mines, Claymores and barb-wire. A squad of 6/8 men will be encamped in an under ground fox hole every 1,000ft to cover their assigned area (similar to the "blockhouse" concept used by the British in the Boar War) each connected by a trench. 5 or so miles behind, a fire-base would be created to assist in artillery bombardment if required.

Phase 2

Agent ORANGE will again be sprayed on the border, this time between Vietnam/Laos, again to the same width of around 2 miles across. No troops would be encamped due to rules of engagement. This time though AC-47/AC-130 aircraft would be on holding pattern above the border, 24 hrs a day, using visual and infra-red aids to attack targets trying to cross the border. USN/USAF F-4 Phantom's and F-8's Crusaders would fly "MigCAP" to protect these from NVAF air attacks.

Would this work?

If so, how effective would this be?
