WI ACH CHallenge Olympic cease fire in 1916

I am told that in the ancient games there were indeed cease fires.

I note that 1916 was listed for Germany which would have been super awkward.

However any way this could happen? Does it make some kind of 'Peace without Victors' possible?

Weren't things like the Christmas Truce only doable because in later years the general view of the war had totally changed amongst both soldiers and the populations of the countries?

But I wonder if you can avoid the 1916 Olympics getting cancelled, out of some remaining spirit of brotherhood and friendly competition?

You'd probably have to do it in a nuetral country such as Switzerland. War wouldn't stop though.

With Berlin a non-starter, it'll probably have to go to one of the runners-up. Brussels and Budapest are as problematic as Berlin; Amsterdam and Alexandria are possible; Cleveland is probably the best bet, though. Nice and remote from the war in a neutral power.

The 1916 Olympics were slated for Budapest, but same thing.

I'm not sure if the problem was so much the location, but the fact that the Olympics was very much a European thing, and they couldn't hold the thing with that many major sports powers at war with each other.

If you think about it, it pretty much negates the entire stated purpose of the entire modern Olympics movement. The Olympics doesn't cancel (or put on hold) war, war cancels the Olympics.
