Run for the Money is an 1987 unsold pilot hosted by Bill Rafferty, announced by Bob Hilton and Reg Grundy Productions is the producer of the show. The format however spawned international versions such as Going for Gold in the U.K. and Quiz Champion in Austria.

ABC however had got a chance between Bargain Hunters and Run for the Money to replace repeats of Webster. Meanwhile, ABC picked up Run for the Money over Bargain Hunters. Run for the Money however aired at 11:30am opposite CBS' The Price is Right and NBC's Scrabble (which like Run for the Money, is a Reg Grundy production).

The show however gained high ratings than Bill Rafferty's other games he hosted, expanding to an hour in 1989, expanding to 90 minutes in 1991, and expanding back to an hour in 1992, before canning it for good in 1994 and replaced with the talk show Mike & Maty.

The show was a huge hit, receiving critical acclaim and spawned a fanbase and the show's popularity.
