WI Aaron Rodgers was drafted by the Bears?

When discussing Aaron Rodgers in regards to the 2005 NFL Draft, a lot of people talk about how he could have picked by the 49ers instead of Alex Smith. However, one of the other 20 teams that passed on Rodgers was the Chicago Bears (who took Kyle Orton in round 4). What if the Bears had taken Rodgers with the 4th pick instead of Cedric Benson?

Side note: Would it be reasonable for the Bears to have drafted Rodgers in ‘05 after having drafted Rex Grossman in ‘03? If not, what would be a realistic setup to get Rodgers drafted by the Bears?

Someone here is doing a TL on that subject. He said the Bears still lose in 2006 to the Colts after a 15-1 regular season, and so far, no title but it’s only through 2009.

In my opinion, Rodgers wins that SB for the Bears, probably close. He does it again in 2010 at the very least, and if the Bears can keep a team around him, maybe a third. Lovie Smith keeps his job so the Bears probably are improved long-term.

Also, with no win in SB41, Peyton Manning ends up with a choker label and maybe never wins one in Indy. Lucas Oil Stadium May still happen, but Manning is remembered in Indy like Dan Marino in Miami - a legend who never finished the job.

Oh cool! Mind linking to that TL? I’d be very interested to look at it :)

(Also, when you say it’s only through ‘09, do you mean that it stops in ‘09 or that it just hasn’t gotten to 2010 yet?)

I’m not selfishly plugging my work, what do you mean?

All seriousness, great minds think alike. As to the 41 debate, I feel like Rodgers benefited a lot by learning from Favre. He would (slight spoilers does in my TL) become great because he has god given talent, but I’d think it’ll take a bit longer without Favre around. And it’s ongoing, I plan to get to at least Super Bowl 50.
