WI: A vegan President

How possible could a person who's diet consists of just eating veggie products from Whole Food do as a candadate running for president? Excluding Dennis Kucinich, there hasn't been any promanient politicians that have vegan lifestyle. This is what would make such a TL difficult, not counting the fact that most vegans are on the far left of the political spectrum, with no one seriously in politics having this diet, how could this be made possible? What is the earliest time for a vegan to be elected as Commander in chief?

Have veganism take off far earlier. Maybe 1970s or 1960s? Connect it to the hippy craze? Then have someone who's raised up on veggie foods, never ate anything from animals.

People who become vegans tend to be extremist, people who are raised as vegans are less likely to be.

In the 19th century, IIRC a lot of our presidents had "wacky" beliefs and not many people cared. Have a late 19th century Republican politician (Garfield?) get involved with the vegetarian/vegan movement in the UK at the time, and become a vegan. It becomes an interesting trivia question about an otherwise forgettable bearded Gilded Age president.

Bill Clinton has a vegan lifestyle now since his heart attack scare. POD: have the occur earlier, and have him willing to have a vegan lifestyle at that point (which he may or may not, or may not even be aware of).

Bill Clinton has been on a vegan diet since his last round of health issues. Maybe have them happen sooner, so he converts to it sooner?

edit: got beat to it.
