WI a smaller Slovakia

What if Bratislava, which had a German plurality according to wikipedia*, had become part of Austria and the southern parts of Slovakia, which had a Hungarian majority according to wikipedia*, remained part of Hungary? What would this mean for Slovakia. Is there still enough of a country left to become independent after the fall of the Soviet union? Whay would become the capital? Would other things would be different or is it just a small border correction that is barely relevant?

Also how could it happen?

* if wikipedia is wrong, please correct me

I meant more or less after the first world war and it being permanent (without a Nazi victory).
Why not? After Vienna award Hungary sized most fertile land, on which mostly Hungarian majority was living (but not only, some annexed areas had actually Slovak majority and Slovakia was able to survive afterwards. So there is still possibility that after Soviet Union fall there would be some separatists movement. Instead of Bratislava, capitol would be Banska Bystrica or Zilina. Population of wartime Slovak republic was around 2.6 mil, there are much smaller countries.

Smallish Slovakia (w/o Bratislava and the southern regions) would possibly have less weight within the federal Czechoslovak state. It might have meant that the Czechoslovakism (basically, an officially promoted idea of the common Czechoslovak ethnicity) of the First CS. Republic could have persisted after the WW2 right into the Communist era, with the very idea of separate Slovak national identity becoming a taboo and any attempt at promoting it subject to prosecution. It all could have backfired quite nastily when the communists are ousted from power in the late 80s - early 90s.

Well, not really, without Hungarian pressure, in more ethnically Slovak Slovakia actually Slovak parties could have even bigger influence in interwar era in my opinion

Would Czechoslovakia want the territories it doesn't get in this TL, and would this lead to irredentism? Or would the Czech-led government have little desire to press Slovakian claims? (If these claims still exist in such a timeline.)

First of all, there may not even be Slovakian claims, if not to many Slovaks are left on Hungarian side (of course not counting between 100-400 000 Slovaks in other areas of Hungary).

Without Bratislava and the south Slovakia would most likely not be independent, but Czechoslovakia would still be around. (assuming the Ruthenian parts in the east goes to USSR/ the Ukraine as OTL after WW2).
