In 1801 Britain, fearing that the "League of Armed Neutrality" created by, among others, Russia, Denmark-Norway and Sweden, would break their blockade of France.
Britain's government decided a direct attack on obstensibly neutral Denmark would lead to Denmark's withdrawel from the League and make the remainder irrelovent.
After a major battle off Copenhagen (where the best of the Danish Navy hid in secluded harbors) between Danish gunboats and the Royal Navy, Admiral Nelson forced Denmark to agree to withdrawel from the league.
(Britain attacked again in 1807 fearing that France would soon invade and seize the Danish Navy.)
What if Denmark's comrades in the league in 1807, Russia and Sweden, had each dispatched fleets to Copenhage to help guarantee both Denmark's and their own freedom of the seas?
Would Nelson still attack at all?
Presumably, with the Swedish and Russian fleets present (let's say for arguement's sake, they each sent 12 ships of the line), would Denmark risk the flower of their own navy?
Would Nelson still win againt forty to fifty ships of the line, then attack the gunboats and Copenhagen harbor defences?
Would they just retreat?
How would the League react to either a defeat or a victory over Britain?
