WI A rival Patriarch substitutes the legitimate Patriarch of Constantinople in 1923?

In September of 1922 in the aftermath of the Greco-Turkish War a disgruntled priest named Pavlos Karahisarides denounced Patriarch Meletius IV of Constantinople and with the help of 2 (also disgruntled) Bishops and 72 priests founded the "Turkish Orthodox Patriarchate" in Kayseri.
Initially the Patriarchate of Constantinople facing its own problems at the time chose to ignore him...
However soon the the newly founded "Patriarchate" managed to gain Kemal Ataturk's support and was relocated to Ankara.
In 1923 with Kemal's support Pavlos Karahisarides proclaimed himself "Patriarch" taking the name Papa Eftim I (legitimate Patriarch Meletius IV excommunicated him for this act and defrocked him) and tried to evict the legitimate Patriarch Meletius IV from the Patriarchal Palace but with no success...
But in 1924 Patriarch Meletius IV resigned and was replaced by Gregory VII who upon his election sent a letter to Kemal Ataturk stating that the Patriarchate of Constantinople would be loyal to him...
For Kemal that was enough and withdrew his support from Papa Eftim I recognising again Patriarch Gregory VII...

WI In 1923 Papa Eftim I was able to kick out the legitimate Patriarch and assume his position as Patriarch of Constantinople? What impact would this have to Turkey's relations with other Orthodox states? Could this have affected international relations with non-Orthodox states too?
