I read today that in WW2 that in WW2 Japanese officers told their troops "If your injured - shoot yourself. This way you wont be a burden to others". This is in contrast to American and British forces who had motto's like "nobody left behind". We had battlefield medics braving enemy fire to care for the wounded. We even gave medical care to wounded enemy troops (as did the Germans). Japanese forces also massacred of thousands of Chinese, used Korean women as prostitutes, and brutally treated POW's.
Granted all Japanese were not like this. Some abhorred what the troops did. I think it had something to do with the Samurai code or something.
But could things have been different? Could the Japanese army be one not known for the Bataan death march or the brutal way they treated even their own troops?
