WI:A longer life for Peter II of Russia?

In January 1730 Emperor Peter II of Russia, grandson of Peter the Great and last male of the House of Romanov died. He was succeeded by his cousin Empress Anna, daughter of Ivan V, Peter's half-brother. So what if Peter II hadn't died? What would his reign have looked like? Would he have continued his grandfathers reforms or supported the old Nobility and their ideas of government? Would the capital have remained in Moscow or would it have been transferred back to Saint Petersburg? Would he really have married Princess Catherine Dolgorukova? Would she have remained his wife when her uncle eventually fell or would we see a repeat of what happened to Peter the Great's first wife?

Peter II was an alcoholic since childhood, and if he lives, he'll probably be forced into marrying Catherine Dolgorukova and becomes a puppet of Dolgorukov clan.
However, there MAY BE a double POD - keep his sister, Natalya Alexeevna, surviving. She was a bookish child, greatly loved by her brother and is much better Emperor material than him. Sure, that's a plot to overthrow the young Emperor waiting to happen, but Natalya loved his brother too much to plot against him. As a power behind the throne, though, she's good.
There was a long timeline about Natalya Alexeevna as the Empress of Russia (not on this board), basically making her into another Catherine the Great and then degenerating into horrible Russia-Wank (along with Brunswick Wank to the point the author had to restore Stuarts in Britain circa 1740 to make it seem less wankish for Hannover and their relatives), with Russia colonising Hawaii and Australia among other things. Natalya Romanova was made a lesbian here among other things (with Anna Leopoldovna, OTL mother of Ivan VI, as her favorite), playing off the Virgin Queen angle and marrying off her aunt Elisabeth (OTL Elisabeth I of Russia) to produce further heirs for Romanov Line.
Oh, and sorry for thread necromancy, but I thought that threads under one month old are good.

The necromancy doesn't bug me. I'm glad to see someone interested in this POD. Any chance of a source for the alcoholic part? I didn't see anything like that on Wikipedia, both English and Russian versions. And do you think that Peter II would remain married to Catherine or no? Sense he was only 14 I can see him divorcing her once he came into his own power, so to speak. After all, its not like there wasn't precedent in Russia. Many Tsars, including his own grandfather Peter the Great, divorced their wives.

As to Natalya Alexeyevna, glad to see great minds think alike:D. She seemed to have been a good moderating influence on her brother, so I would guess that Natalya would be a good counter wait to the more selfish advisors, like Prince Dolgorukov. Any chance you can give me a link to the TL you described? It sounds very interesting!

It is here, in Russian. Though you seem to read Russian, so it shouldn't bother you.
As for alcoholism, his alcoholic career was basically started in early childhood by his nanny, who gave him wine and vodka to make him sleep better and then perpetuated by Ivan Dolgorukov. But then, Peter the Great also had a drunkard for governor, and managed rather well despite being 3rd in line to the throne till 1682 and getting second-rate tutors.
So if Natalya lives, she'll introduce him to Osterman (a great possible figure of influence) who was rather fond of a girl and maybe explains to him that partying and hunting aren't the only things a ruler shall be concerned with.

That could work. Though even if he stopped hunting and partying, he still seemed to hate the act of governing. In that sense I get the feeling that Peter II would be similar to Louis XV. Not a bad monarch, but a far cry from a great one. And Sadly I can't read Russian, though I am a master of Google Translate. But thanks for the link, can't wait to read it.

Natalya Alexeevna is one possible person for "Enlightened Russia-Wanks" on Russia AH boards with PODs in the period 1650-1750 (there are also quite popular Russia-Wanks with elder brothers of Peter the Great namely Alexis and Feodor, though Alexis is a "Baltasar Carlos of Russia" and thus timelines with him surviving and managing to marry to Benedicta-Henriette of Palatinate-Simmern basically turn into "Make Your Own Tsar" wanks (Feodor at least reigned for some time and we know what his political views were). Alexis is also less popular than Feodor there since his existence most likely butterflies away Peter the Great (no need for Alexis Mikhailovich to remarry with surviving eldest son and relatively healthy spare (accident with Feodor happened in 1674)).

A mediocre ruler may benefit from competent power behind the throne, though (see - Louis XIII of France). So the timeline is basically "WI Peter II gets competent advisors".
