I've been brainstorming a few ACW ATLs lately and another that I've just thought of doing involves both a longer ACW, that still ends in a union victory, and the possibility of Lincoln running for a third term. I want to try to make my POD as late as possible so that most of the events in the war, such as the trench warfare around Richmond, and Sherman's March, go unchanged. I'd then also like to see what kinds of situations the Northern and Southern armies would find themselves in if the war can extend past April 1865. I am mainly aiming for a POD that allows Lee to hold Richmond and then see what goes on from there.
Also I am not sure if this has been discussed before but since I want a longer ACW more then likely by some time Confederate black soldiers will eventually see action since they began training in Richmond during March 1865. With this in mind I was wondering what changes will likely occur due to their presence on the field and in the public eye. As well what differences would this make in the social reforms during the reconstruction era? I’m also hoping that I can put the south in such a bad situation that they eventually conscript women which I can then use as a way to speed up female rights in this TL. I got my inspiration for that from this - http://www.archives.gov/exhibits/civ...aising-armies/ Then with all of this in mind what do you think a full 2nd Lincoln presidency would be like during the reconstruction era, and what are his chances of a 3rd term.
I should also try to make it especially clear that I have no specific PODs or major events planed for this TL that I haven't explained above so please feel free to come up with as much as you would like to if this were you own idea.
