In 1421 Murad II succeded as Sultan of the Ottomans... Few months later Byzantine Emperor Manuel II released from prison the pretender Mustafa Celembi and recognised him as true heir of Bayezid I... With the help of Byzantine army and navy Mustafa landed on the european dominions of Murad and beat Murad's armies easily... With the help of Byzantine gold Mustafa confronted and defeated a large army under Beyazid Pasha and declared himself Sultan in Adrianople... Sultan Mustafa crossed Dardanelles to Asia with a large army but Murad bribed some of his units to desert him (while others deserted him because of his cruelty and violence)... Mustafa was defeated and sought refuge in Gallipoli... Murad II with the help of Genoese army besieged him captured him and killed him... Mustafa vowed to punish the Byzantine Emperor for this...
WI Mustafa had won and deposed Murad II? He would be greatly indebted to the Byzantine Emperor and this would have delayed significantly the Fall of Constantinople... Any thoughts?
