I'm playing a tabletop RPG known as Call of Cthulhu. In the current adventure a series of cult connected murders and supernatural occurrences had the entire city of Venice on edge. In conjunction Venice also had a particularly active group of communists and the blackshirts were notoriously corrupt.
The player characters murdered a well known and beloved family in Venice, while dressed up as blackshirts. They even used magic to make their faces resemble the cities magistrate and the Captain of the Venice police force. In this attack they blew up a store and killed 20 innocent people, many of them war veterans who were buying prosthetic limbs. The communists saw this attack and kicked up a fury, with an angry mob forming that preceded to track down and kill the magistrate.
This then sparks a communist lead uprising in Italy that takes over the city, which then declare that they intend to rise up across all of Italy. When several companies of troops are sent to crush the uprising(Thinking it is unorganized rioting.) the troops are defeated in a decisive battle. With the revolutionaries seizing their weapons.
I'm wondering what impact would an event like this have on the history of Italy, in 1923 was the Italian communist movement still large enough that they could undertake a successful revolution. Would Benito Mussolini crush any rebellion?
I'd be interested to hear every bodies thoughts on this.
