WI a Communist coup in the United States?

Is there a thread about this? If so, I'll search for it. What if there was a communist coup in the United States in the 1920s and '30s? Who'd be the
new leader of the United States?

Its a rather unlikely prospect presumably there is no new deal to save the American wayand the riots get nasty. The only possible leader is Dwight D Eisenhower but that would involving believing the John Birch Society loonies that he was a communist agent. After assistant Macrthur attacking a Hooverville he becomes the suppressor of revolts and decides to sieze power to preserve public order. A more likely prospect is a coup of the right like the failed bankers coup against Roosevelt

I would consider it fairly far fetched since any coup in Washington does not automatically translate to a change of authority in the forty eight state capitals. A revolution of sorts could trickle its way up from the bottom, but a strike at the head will do little.

Agreed. It'd more likely cause something akin to a civil war more than anything else.

Eisenhower? In the early 30s? When he is an unknown Major on Mac's staff? When he is known, if at all, for attacking veterans?

I don't think so.

Remember your U.S. history from either high school, or college? After World
War I, Congress passed a law paying veterans of World War I, (AKA, The
Great War), a bonus in 1945. Then came the Great Depression. The veterans, many of whom had jobs, lost them. Then they marched on Washington demanding that they get their bonus in 1932-33, instead of 1945, and Hoover called out the Army to deal with them. Who commanded the troops that put down the Bonus Army's March on Washington? Douglas
MacArthur. MacArthur ordered the troops to put down the Bonus Army. There
were fears of a riot. Now speaking of coups, that's just how the Spanish Civil
War got started, as an attempted coup. The American people, in the 1930s, were probably ripe for a change, even if it was a communist revolution. Of course, this is just my opinion, but that's probably what was
going through the minds of Hoover, and later, FDR.

Ever hear of Major General Smedley D. Butler, (USMC, Ret.)? Back in the '30s, I think it was 1936, or so, General Butler came forward with a claim,
most historians think is unfounded, but who knows? His claim is that he was
approached by Wall Street bankers to lead a coup against FDR, because they
thought he'd gone too far to the left.

I'm sure Wolfpaw, and the rest of us, are well aware of the Bonus Army's March on Washington.

I was providing background. After MacArthur fired on the Bonus Army, he
was made military governor of the Philippines, and Eisenhower went with him. A few years later, and this is a true story, I'm not making any of it up.
Eisenhower was on the streets of Washington when a woman came up to him and asked him if he knew General MacArthur. Eisenhower's reply was:
"Know him? Madam, I studied under him!" To say there was bad blood between Eisenhower and MacArthur is an understatement.

The only MacArthur that was military governor of the Philippines was Douglas' father, Arthur MacArthur. I not sure that the quote you give is indicative of the 'bad blood' between MacArthur and Eisenhower.

What Eisenhower said was "I studied theatrics under MacArthur".

Which hardly sounds like a complement.:D

Blair152, the claim is beyond unfounded. The sheer stupidity in claims that a group of bankers, many of them bitter personal enemies, asked a left-leaning, pro-FDR general to lead a right-wing coup speaks for itself.

Okay, so you're providing background (albeit ham-fistedly)...what did this have to do with my post? Are you implying I'm ignoring or wrong about something? If so, please clarify since I find your post rather vague.

Here's an idea- why didn't you do a search BEFORE posting yet another nonsensical ASB thread? What's the point of doing a search AFTER posting another of your ill thought out spam threads?

The entire point IS the "ill thought out" thread.

I grow increasingly convinced that Bard is actually quite knowledgeable and he is doing this as some sort of bizarre trolling effort. He get too many things exactly wrong while overstating the obvious with such dedication that it simply HAS to be a dodge.
