WI - A Christianized branch of Buddhism / Buddhaized form of Christianity?

Given how the story of of Siddharth Gautama / Buddha was Christianized to become the story of Barlaam and Josaphat (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barlaam_and_Josaphat), how could a hypothetical Christianized branch of Buddhism or a Buddhaized / Dharmic form of Christianity come into being and dominate Central Asia along with much of what is today Afghanistan / Pakistan up to the modern era?

But at the same time what of zoroastrianism which played a huge role in influencing judaism. Technically with zororastrianism in the way I dont see how buddhism could effectivly spread as far as the state of the hebrews... Unless you propose to replace zoratrian persia with a buddhist one then what you said could ahppen and the scenario you want happen though that is unlikly.

Yet Buddhism managed to gain ground in Central Asia prior to islam conquering its way into the region after the Battle of Talas, while Christianity via the Nestorians also reached into the region and were even said to have influenced various Turkic and Mongol tribes to some degree by the time the Mongol Empire appeared on the scene (since the Sassanid Zoroastrian refugees in the region did not propogate their faith like the Nestorians did), so the potential is there for such syncretism to have happened that would give birth to a new unique central asian belief system.
