WI: 90s Captain America film released in theaters

Originally, the Captain America movie starring Matt Salinger was supposed to be released in theaters in August of 1990, but it's release kept on getting delayed and the film was eventually released direct to video in the summer of 1992. What if the film had been released in theaters in August 1990 just as planned? Would the film have been successful at the box office or would the movie have bombed horribly due to bad reviews? Would the film's theatrical release have butterflied any certain future marvel movies from being made?

It would have crash and burned.
It was a horrible movie.

To make Captain America a better film, we need a better director than Albert Pyun.
The First two to come to mind is Spielberg and James Cameron but they are the easy answer.
Who could be a good choice for the Director?

And for god shake we need the Red Skull to be a German.
How about Christopher Lee as the Red Skull?
