I'm Filipino and I'm telling you that Spanish rule is doomed no matter what will happened. The execution of the three secular priests in 1872 awakens the Filipinos to revolt against the crumbling Spanish rule in the Philippines. That event actually is the basis of the Noli me Tangere written by Jose Rizal our national hero. Without that event, that book will be butterfly away and Jose Rizal will be just a footnote in the history.
But, the Spanish rule in the Philippines is doomed after the Latin America's independence because Philippines actually is ruled by a Spanish colony of Viceroyalty of New Spain or Mexico in the present day. When Mexico separates from Spain, the Acapulco trade, the lifeline of the Philippine economy for the entire Spanish rule has ended and that event slowly weakening the Spanish rule in the Philippines until the Suez Canal has opened in 1869 that briefly revived the ailing economy of the Philippines due to a mass of inflow of investments from Great Britain, Spain, Germany, and the United States. The opening of the Suez Canal also brought the liberal ideologies in the Philippines by the Europeans, thus influencing the minds of the educated Filipinos and disseminates to the masses and once they influenced, they are now eager to revolt against Spain and one person influenced by Jose Rizal, whose goal is a complete independence from Spain named Andres Bonifacio. Andres Bonifacio creates the secret society known in Filipino as Katipunan or in English it means association. The goal of that society is to overthrow the Spanish rule and to install a republic independent from Spain. Unfortunately, that secret society is being suppressed by the Spaniards after a member had confessed to a friar that he is a member of a group to overthrow Spanish rule. Another is Jose Rizal is not supporting the revolution not because the group is lacking money but because Jose Rizal wants to maintain Spanish rule in the Philippines with representation in the Cortes.
With the rejection of Jose Rizal in the revolution, the Katipunan seeks Japanese aid for arms after a Japanese naval ship named Kongo visited in the Philippines for a bazaar. Bonifacio send a man to ask aid to the Japanese named Emilio Jacinto. After that bazaar, Bonifacio tried to purchase arms and ammunition from Japan, but failed due to lack of funds.
The Kapitunan's cooperation with the Japanese alone shows that Japanese has an interest to rule in the Philippines in case the revolutionaries overthrow the Spaniards. In reality, Japanese doesn't want to have an Asian republic to compete their interest so if the revolutionaries would succeed, the Japanese will rush to conquer the Philippines and rule.
The effects in World War II is that Japan will have an undisputed control in Asia as the United States didn't conquer any Asian colonies. United States may not interfere the Asian affairs and focus in Europe, Latin America or turn to Isolationism, no blockade as a result. A Pacific War may be different. It maybe UK vs Japan in 1940.
