The 1980s probably had a lot of cultural trends that were going to come regardless of outside influence, but it was interwoven and influenced by a very Reagantastic culture as well. Greed was good, big money and white collars were back, and it was all about style and conspicuous consumption. Given the 1970s were the "Me Decade", of fashion, fun, style and money, that is not as unique as it may be portrayed.

We are assuming Carter won 1980 in a scenario. I will do this with no Iran Hostage Crisis or a successful Eagle Claw, no mass firings of the cabinet, and maybe another factor, but with the economy still being what it was in 1980. But with those factors going right, we will assume Carter managed to just make it to victory. It is the same 1976 to 1980 economically, socially and so on, so we are not making it a utopia. We are also assuming the economic forces of 1980 to 1984 go the same, meaning as much recovery as OTL and the early 1980s recession which becomes a major rebound. What would 1980s culture be, in all the synth music, DeLorean driving, Miami Vice, Steve Guttenberg areas were Carter and not Reagan president?
