WI 1979 Islamabad embassy burning turns into massacre?

Only a few weeks after the staff at the American embassy in Iran were taken hostage a extremely similar incident took place in Pakistan. Spurred by rumors that Americans had stormed Mecca a crowd began protesting peacefully outside the embassy before a larger mob arrived and broke into the compound before setting it on fire. To quote one of the State Department workers there-

We moved into the vault, there is a double-door system there. You move through one steel door from the corridor to an ante-room, and then through another steel door into the vault itself, which is a room, which is where we spent the rest of the afternoon. You sort of have to picture this as 80 people in a room that could probably hardly take about ten or fifteen, Marines outside, holding off first a mob and secondly a fire, and a very great lack of communication. Let’s take each one by itself, because it is hard to put all this together.

At first the mob came up to the door and tried to enter. The Marines had rolled tear gas canisters out into the corridor and had held off the mob this way.

The best we can figure out as to what happened was that then, seeing that they couldn’t get in, the mob at that point set fire to the Embassy, hoping to drive us out by smoke. Many of us who have now seen the Embassy from the outside and talked with enough people, have the feeling that they weren’t trying to drive us out — they were trying to get rid of us.

So, what if worst comes to worst, the fire goes out of control and all 50 Americans and 87 Pakistanis in the vault die?

Again, this is just after the start of the Iran Hostage Crisis, Carter already has that on his plate and now this.

it would have long term consequence on US foreign politics

Of course under Carter will order to Bomb something in Pakistan
but under Ronald Reagan things will change, next to Communism, he put radical Islam also on the agenda...

Earlier development of US-India ties?

Probably,

Pakistan after an event like this might still be supported, but the U.S population will probably be highly anti-Pakistani. Many will see India as a better nation.

As Wwhiteshore said, America might look too less extremist nations like Pakistan, like India.
