WI: 1905 revolution leads to Military Junta?

In OTL, there was a minor revolution after the russo japanese war of 1905 in Russia.

But what if there as a Military Junta instead of a communist government or a Czar?

I'v read that the Russian military didn't want to get involved into politics so it might not happen. But if it did, I suppose they would be in trouble. Russia was unstable for a number of reasons and the system was centered around the tzar, he was the spider in the goverment web AND a unifying character.

So I'd say civil war.

I don't see a formal junta happening. If Nicholas II manages to outdo his OTL self in dithering and obstinancy and inflames the country into a critical state, the nobility (who fill the army officer corps and the civil service) may have ridded themselves of him. There were rumours to the effect OTL: a link to an alarmist newspaper report was posted earlier today. But were he to be compelled to abdicate, I'd imagine a "regency" for little Alexei in fact run by some of the big names of the conspiracy, with the civilian ministries filled by civilians.

For the effects, well, I'd want to do some research into what the people rumoured to be plotting plots actually thought.

Well, the actual plan was to appoint the popular military commander Grand Duke Nicholas as military dictator, to which he apparently responded by pulling a gun to his head and demanding democratic reforms...

Though maybe I'm not remembering the scene correctly...

Grand Duke Nicholas was a bit of a drama queen

the regency idea might work well... However I would not say that the 1905 revolution was "minor" in fact it was the largest in Europe in about half a century. It was just very decentralized and had no real unifying feature.
