The fact that Napoleon was Corsican would have an important symbolism for two reasons:
1) "In your face, Bonapartists!"
2) Ammo for the French Royalists: "Aren't we all glad we got rid of the tyranny of that foreigner?"
Sure, they didn't want to cripple France too much but she could have been easily compensated with some Walloon land.
Corsica could have been given either to the Savoys or to any of those princes in need for compensation.
Alright, I confess that the real reason I want this to happen is because I want a unification of Italy that includes Corsica. Makes sense and looks prettier on the map.
