She was his niece wasn't she and yet he had surviving brothers. Well I guess the law is what it is but I would have thought from a historical perspective they should have just let the brother of a king take over if the king had no sons. I mean Henry the 8th had no brothers (except obviously his older dead one) or nephews but if he did I reckon he would have been king instead of Mary or Elizabeth.

From an alternate history perspective how likely is it for that principal to be enshrined in law? That a brother or nephew takes precedence over a niece or even a daughter...
