I've been to Germany, Thailand, Sydney, and Cape Town, and I could never find a Gridiron Football in any of the stores. I would always take one with me, and on a sunny day I would go out to a park, and punt, pass, and kick the thing around for a little while. Inevitably a local would ask what the ball was, and I would explain the game as best I could, then the Rugby comparisons would start, and I would explain the forward pass, how to put a spiral on the ball, and how it's the biggest sport in the States.

Baseball spread around the US during and after the Civil War, then around the world after World War II. Take Japan. Why is Baseball so popular, but the NFL is unheard of?
