But the Mongols only killed you if you resisted (for the most part). If your city surrendered, you were probably spared. Would Hitler have let any Jews live if they surrendered to him? Ditto for Stalin with anyone marked for "purging."

Not to mention that the Mongols were pretty tolerant most of the time.
your right. One thing which was typical for the mongolian empire was the religious tolerance and the Pax Mongolica. They might be bastards in war but after that they were suprisingly tolerant.

P.S. Ok, perhaps I'm a little bit biased in my opinion because I'm married with a mongolian. But on the other hand it gave me a little bit insight in the mongolian history as the mongols see it.

I wouldn't make the argument that Genghis/Mongols were worse than Hitler. I'd rank him higher (lower?). But they still launched wars of agression against others and comitted mass murder on an enormous scale if you had the gall to defend yourself against them. They killed women, kids, and old people- who had no choice in any of the matter- by the millions and millions. It just gets glossed over too much, imo, in light of the fact that they were just that damn good militarily.

If you lived, you were sold into slavery. Didn't old Temujin seriously consider depopulating all of northern China to turn it into grazing land for the Mongol Horde's horses? I think even Himmler would've balked at that.

Tell me one nation, which haven't commit genocide in their history.

die Vereinigten Staaten?
Indians aka Native Americans! What was done to the Native Americans was nothing else but a genocide. Perhaps not as effective and industrualized as the germans did to the jews but still a genocide.
You know the saying "The only good indian is a dead indian" or this one: "This unfortunate race, whome we had been taking so much pains to save and to civilise, have by their unexpected desertion and ferocious barbarities justified extermination and now await our decision on their fate." - Thomas Jefferson?

I maintain that you can't call the US Indian policy "genocide" that stretches that definition a bit too far. The US government never had a concerted policy to murder Indians.

But fine. Sweden? Norway? Finland? Iceland? Denmark?

I think what happened in America was part of a larger scale European Genocide.

And there were times when the US wasn't at war with any specific Indians but did kill them.

Saying most countries have committed genocide, though, does sort of stretch the definition.

We're talking about who the relative worst offenders in this thread. Not whether certain nations/groups are completely innocent or guility, because few are. But as was mentioned, legitimately comparing the historical policies of a nation like Sweden to the Mongols is completely inaccurate.

Tell me one nation, besides Maoist China, Stalinist Russia, or Nazi Germany (for starting WWII), who have caused more deaths than the Mongols, for the reason that they wanted to conquer people.

Probably Kim Jong-il. Why? Because his people absolulty worship him. He has absolulte unbelivable mild meltingly terrifing power over the people of North Korea.

I watched this show on Dateline where a dr from China had been allowed into North Korea to give people eye surgery. The first thing these bainwashed or really terrified people did was walk over to a picture of that evil man and bow down and thank him.

On your list I'd say Stalin just because of the amount of people he killed. Hitler gave the Germans a bad name, and many people in the world still see them as nazis no matter what. Stalin killed millions more than Hitler.

Maybe it's a tie.

What do you mean by "Worst"? Do you mean the most totalitarian and most "Evil" and violent. Or do you mean the one who was worst at being dictator?

More death than the mongols just because they want to conquer people? Ok they are not nations but in that case I put my stake on 2 of the 3 monotheistic religions: Islam and Christianity.
And for nations: I nominate Spain for the Conquista of south america.
