Who was the most popular Union martyr besides Lincoln from 1865-1875?

Who was the most widely admired Union (or antislavery movement) martyr, or unmartyred but deceased individual, from the antislavery or Union side in the years 1865-1875?

The first name that comes to mind is "John Brown" but despite some Union soldiers singing "John Brown lies mouldring in his grave" he strikes me as still a tad too controversial.

I'm trying to think of somebody admired widely enough that a territory could be named after him. I figure that could have easily happened with Lincoln, even though it did not actually happen and there is no state of Lincoln. Is there anybody else who could have rated such an honor?

John Brown
He did die before 1865 but would be a martyr still at that time
Or do you mean those that become martyrs in the time frame stated?
if that George Armstrong Custer (although he is 1876)

Robert Gould Shaw also comes to mind (Yes, I keep editing this one post . . .)

John Brown's body lies a-mouldering in the grave,
John Brown's body lies a-mouldering in the grave,
But his soul goes marching on.

Chorus:
Glory, glory, hallelujah,
Glory, glory, hallelujah,
His soul goes marching on.

He's gone to be a soldier in the Army of the Lord,
He's gone to be a soldier in the Army of the Lord,
His soul goes marching on.
Chorus:

John Brown's knapsack is strapped upon his back,
John Brown's knapsack is strapped upon his back,
His soul goes marching on.
Chorus:

John Brown died that the slaves might be free,
John Brown died that the slaves might be free,
His soul goes marching on.
Chorus:

The stars above in Heaven now are looking kindly down,
The stars above in Heaven now are looking kindly down,
His soul goes marching on.
Chorus:
