My first choice by a long way, would be Manstein, second Guderian, third Kesselring, fourth Hoth, fifth Hoepner, and sixth Rommel.

I liked Rommel because his morale compass was somewhat correct and he manged to master a difficult art of modern warfare, logistics.

Sorry? I'm as much a member of the cult of Rommel as you can be but he didn't master logistics. He kept overstretching his supply lines. One of the main problems he faced at El Alamien was the lack of fuel for his tanks and this was because his supplies had go almost across the entire width of Libya to reach him. Admittedly this was mostly due to Allied superiority at Sea and in Air in the North African theatre but Rommel still made the mistake of stretching his supply lines to breaking point just to be agressive and was justly punished for it, first by the Auk (who overstretched his own supply lines in the chase) and then by Monty.

Rommel was a great Blitzkrieg commander and was one of the most succesful proponants of that form of warfare. He was rarely beaten when he fought with that form of warfare when he kept his supply lines in check. He was most effective in France and Normandy but when he was in Africa, where he made his name, he was very good but not good enough.

Manstein.
Rommel 2nd, cos' he was charismatic and the British just stood there and asked him autographs when they were supposed to be fighting!
Also, Rommel is NOT a logistical genius. He wasn't a general staff graduate, and Von Rundstedt kept calling him 'baby marshal'.

Manstein was also an ideologist and rascist though. It was him who authorized 'schorced earth' policy in Russia.
