Who Could Have Swung?

If Capital Punishment in the United Kingdom lasted until the modern day for murder (as it stood before the 1957 law), who could have conceivably been hanged?

The only people who most come to mind right now are the Moors Murderers, Ian Brady and Myra Hindley. Also, the Kray Twins for the murders during the 50s and 60s, although there may be a campaign to reprieve them by some of their acquaintances. Peter Sutcliffe comes to mind as well, but a reprieve may be granted due to him being insane.

So AH.com, who do you think would have been hanged?

Judith Ward, the Birmingham Six, three of the Guildford Four (one was under 18), Stefan Kiszko, three of the Bridgewater Four (again, one was under 18), Peter Fell, Sean Hodgson, Winston Silcott, the Cardiff Three, Sally Clark, Donna Anthony, Angela Cannings, Barry George...

Perhaps Jimmy Savile given the right circumstances.
Nope. Since 1861 there had only been five civilian capital crimes in the UK: murder, treason, espionage, arson in royal dockyards and piracy with violence. Rape is notably not included.

Just about everyone given a whole life tariff.Gregg's list above provides a lot of good reasons why I'm glad that the death penalty was abolished

1. Could Winston Silcott have been hanged for the murder for which he was bail for at the time?

2. For the woman convicted of killing the babies: Wouldn't mercy be possibly be granted because of a possible cot death?

Perhaps Jimmy Savile given the right circumstances.

Rape wasn't a capital crime in 1957.

Northern Ireland would have been worse by orders of magnitude/

Exactly what do you mean?

How many charges would he be found guilty of where he still alive?

If he were still alive, probably more than a 100.

Just about everyone given a whole life tariff.

Wouldn't some of them be granted mercy, due to mental health issues? In that case, who would be given life imprisonment in their place?
