White majority in South Africa?

Is there any way there could be a white majority in South Africa before it became a Union in 1910, whether it be Boer, British, or both? This still follows the same path of the British gaining the Cape Colony at the same time.

I think it would require South Africa to be smaller, like if it had never expanded beyond the Cape Colony. The eastern half of South Africa is far more populous than the western half. If the Great Trek had never happened, it's possible that whites could have become the majority in the Cape at some point.
