Whim of the Winds- No PET

Trudeau toured China just as Mao's Commies were cleaning up in late '49. He got in the middle of a Nat-Com firefight and nearly got shot. Now if he did get KIA in 1949, how would this affect Canadian politics down the road? I thought about this being in Can-Ken, but decided against. Trudeau being crushed by a Kennedy is ironic, considering many thought him a Canadian equivalent . Which greatly irritates me. The Kennedys were centrist Democrats, not NDP socialists at heart like PET.

Even with Trudeau dying in '49 I don't see any real changes until the 1960's. Undoubtedly someone else will take his place in the Quiet Revolution and as Justice Minister. The real changes will come in the Liberal Leadership convention of 1968. Marchand probably still won't run, perhaps without Trudeau he places his support behind Gerard Pelletier.

Anyways without Trudeau I think Stanfield's Tories will have a much easier time resulting in Stanfield becoming PM somewhere along the line...

Which means a lot of butterflies. Perhaps an acceptable constitutional deal, thereby no Meech, Charlottetown or Referendum Round 2. Mulroney and the PC's might survive... I smell a TL. Not me, I have two to finish right now...
