Actually, there is a new Magyver series. I discovered it in December. Maybe they're airing it in Hungary at the same time as the US because it's so popular there.

I looked it up, apparently the new Macgyver series started airing here about a week ago, but this happened back around October last year, so the kids must have been talking about the 80s series.

Another interesting bit of Sliders trivia from Hungary, about 2 years ago I was visiting a friend who lives near an old abandoned school building that closed some years before and has become derelict by that time. Local youngsters apparently sneaked in there during the night and made all kinds of apocalyptic graffities on the walls. One of the graffities I saw read "Kromaggs Rule the end is here!" like in the Season 2 episode "Invasion" the first appearance of the Kromaggs. ;)

I never saw series 4 or 5. Here in the UK Sliders was on BBC2 but then Sky TV bought it up so if you didn't have a dish you couldn't see it. This happened to quite a few shows around that time, 24 being one of them.

I enjoyed the show overall. It was daft in places, had some good ideas with poor execution. The idea of landing in the middle of a Dino National Park or a world without penicillin hooked me but you could tell it didn't have a great budget. One episode was supposed to be French America but all they did was park a Citroen 2CV in front of a open air café with a bunch of Tricolors hanging all over and someone playing the accordion!

Yeah, all TV shows were low budget and had poor execution since the invention of TV until... maybe the Battlestar Galactica reboot. I prefer to rate TV shows based on whether they entertain me. Otherwise, I'd be thumbing my nose at every Star Trek series and Mr. Bean. I don't want to live in a world where I have to feel like I'm too good for Star Trek and Mr. Bean.
