The Sikh Empire was confined to the north west part of India and had only Punjab and neighboring lands under its control. Mysore was confined to the South India and was not easy to spread to the north. But Marathas occupied the Central India and controlled the North including Delhi. Their dominion covered almost half of the subcontinent and if the Peshwas were stronger and kept the generals under control, they had greater chances to become the heirs of the Mughals. In the case of Mysore, Hyder Ali also had an image of an usurper as he had captured the power dethroning the original dynasty.
