Partly because of the thread I made here,on the topic of China in the early 20th centaury. The topic was brought up when I was speaking with a few friends of mine,we threw some ideas about how a Chinese Dynasty could survive to today. Not just survive, but thrive in another good point. Now there are a lot of dynasties to choose from, but to be fair..the Imperial ones will only be used in the poll. Also, there are some Dynasties that branched off from others..so if you want to vote for the Southern Song Dynasty..just vote Song Dynasty.

As for the Dynasty you would think would survive, give a reason..because this is where it gets interesting. In the end,the discussion went down to 3 possible reasons for a Dynasty surviving in modern times...and by modern it is after 1911..the end of the Qing Dynasty.

Reason 1~The will of the people. For those who know their Chinese history,Dynasties rise and fall..over time. But they fall due to the power structure and possible corruption of the government. This reason is China being wise to the ways of the west and the world, and does not let their Dynasty decay.

Reason 2~Changing of the seasons. Dynasties fall,it is unavoidable..but new ones replace previous ones. This is a choice if you think that a Dynasty on the poll would have fallen, but a similar one would replace it.

Reason 3~Foreign intervention. China is unable to create a new Dynasty on its own, thus a foreign power or force comes in to help. A good example is that the USA helps China after the Qing Dynasty falls, and possibly helps China maintain order while a new one is established. Hence, the Empire Of China.

I'm not sure it's possible to answer the question, except as a thought experiment about ISOTing a China from earlier times into the present day, and that doesn't get us very far. Chinese political history didn't develop in a vacuum, but in interaction with the world at large. You could take a very successful dynasty for its time--say, the Tang, who expanded Chinese rule all the way into Central Asia--and its system of governance would be hopelessly anachronistic in a modern context.

And if you simply say "Well, let's have them stay around until the present day instead of being deposed by some other dynasty", then it's a moot point because it would have changed beyond recognition in the meantime.

I mean, take Japan. Technically, it's been ruled by the same dynasty since the dawn of recorded history. Does that mean that the Japanese system of governance is the same now as it was, say, during the Heian period?

You'll note that my way of having the Chinese imperial regime survive into the present day in "Superpower Empire" was to allow the Qing to be deposed, only to start over with a new dynasty while there was still a chance of successful imperial restoration. The Qing simply had too much baggage, in order to keep them I would have had to put a POD at least a century earlier.

Well due to the number of possiblilities i vouche for the Zhao nation .
(since I am a clan member:D)

The Han is the most probable. Not only did the dinasty last for over 400 years, but many following rulers tried to play the Han card in getting a legitimacy over the throne of China (I'm thinking Liu Bei of Shu and the 316 founding of the Xiongnu Han Dinasty). It had a very potent power base, it was very popular with the people, with great expansion capabilities. If you forbid the powerplays of the eunuchs and get another 200 years of good emperors, it would be practically impossible to make the chinese believe in the necessity of another dinasty...

Well, I may have biased opinions because I'm creating a Korean timeline right now, but it might be the Ming.

The Jin, Yuan, and Qing were foreign, so I don't think that they could have had much support from the people because they were going to be overthrown eventually.

The other Chinese dynasties don't have a chance because they were too small in size, and would have been overwhelmed by another power sooner or later. The Tang probably would have a chance, but they overexpanded themselves, and they had a Korean general who conquered most of the western territories, and could have easily defected.

Also, if the Ming were in power, they might have listened to the European powers because they might realize soon after the Japanese raids that they might not be as strong as they had seemed in the past, so they might become more advanced in terms of the military and economy.

That's actually a good point, among the people I have spoken with. Some do not even consider the Qing Dynasty part of the Dynastic history of China, due to the foreign view...also due to anger that some Chinese have against the Manchu people.

The poll is a bit more wide spread than I first thought there would be,I have my own views..which I will comment on. But it's not surprising to see Ming and Qing votes.

The Chinese Empire is still here, but under communist rule. I call it 'The People's Dynasty' :D

It would be kind of interesting to see the War of the Three Kingdoms replayed with modern technology. Interesting, and very destructive. The Red Cliffs with modern navies and marines would turn the Yangzte red. :(
