Where would the Dutch go without Batavia?

If the Dutch never managed to capture Batavia, where would they establish their main trade hub? Eastern Indonesia seems too far-off, while India is too close to the Portuguese center of power.

But that wouldn't be possible for the first decade or two.

Batavia was founded in 1619 and very nearly fell to Sultan Agung in 1629. But Malacca was ruled by the Portuguese until 1641. So what do the Dutch do during the 1620s/1630s?
Take Malacca by force earlier. Maybe they take this obscure big island at the southern part of the Malay Peninsula nominally under the Sultanate of Johor.

In a quick read through dutch texts about the subject, i see two clear motives behind the choice of Jakarta/Batavia as main hub. 1) it was a highly developed agricultural area 2) there would be less resistance than at other places.
Java is an agricultural giant in South-East Asia. So if the hub would be somewhere else, it wouldn't be as succesful.
