That just means popular historiography and depictions will be less hagiographic and more similar to Japanese Taiga dramas. So much of political and historical discourse is “if only the right people would rule”. India went from oppressive sultanates to British rule to shitty half-assed socialism to Hindu nationalism. The Israeli government has a shoddy human rights record to say the least, but many also assume if only Israel lost everyone would live peacefully under Arab rule. Chinese peasants under the Kuomintang may long for Maoist rule, and many of those stuck under the Tsars longed for the Soviet rule that would oppress them as well.
That applies in this TL too. The Meshica Christians of this TL would probably kill to have Spain conquer them. The slaves who built the Eriron Canal probably wish Haudenosaunia was ruled by the English instead. The Taino have been displaced by the Spanish, but can you imagine if the Spanish were in turn displaced by the Taino?
