Where am I????

(OOC: I'm bored and I came up with this idea from Iori's thread America CE:Q&A.)

I was out at McDonald's getting lunch through the drive-through. It was a normal June day in the Southeast of the United States; humid beyond belief!
I got my food from the window, put it in my passenger seat, and drove back toward my house.
I tuned my radio to the news. Right in the newscaster's announcement, "President McClellan is now threatening war against-" the reception died. Then my car died. I was in the middle of nowhere and my car died. I pulled out my phone and was about to get to tow truck's number when I saw my phone had no bars. Weird, I always get reception out here. I figured "What the hell?" and tried to start my car up again. It worked!! The news came back on, but with a different newscaster, saying, "B.P. still trying to clean up oil on Louisiana and Florida beaches after more than 50 days of oil has flowed out of the well."
That was weird as I knew for a fact that there was no oil spill in the Gulf. I drove back to my house. I walked in and immediately got on my computer. I researched the "Oil Spill in the Gulf" and realized, something was really wrong....I was in a different universe!!
I decided the best way to learn about this world is to talk to the people who actuallylive in this world.
So:
Who are the main superpowers in this world?
What are the major religions of this world?
In what state is the United States of North America in this world?
Are the names, Sam McClellan, Joseph Kennedy, Dao Zte-Pao, Leon Trotsky, or Wyatt Tee Walker familiar to anyone?

If you guys want, you can ask me a few questions.

The United States of America (we don't say North) is an independent country.

Who are the main superpowers in this world?

Currently, we're the big one.

What are the major religions of this world?

Christians and Muslims make up over half the world's population, with the former making up about a third, half of which are Catholic.

Are the names, Sam McClellan, Joseph Kennedy, Dao Zte-Pao, Leon Trotsky, or Wyatt Tee Walker familiar to anyone?

No, yes, no, yes, no -- the first yes was father of John F Kennedy, President 1961-63, the second yes was a rival for power against Josef Stalin, who ruled the Soviet Union (USSR) 1924-53.

Why don't you say "North"?

Are there any other superpowers?

Religions. Check; but what about the Oriental religions?

McClellan and Zte-Pao? McClellan was President of The U.S.N.A. and Zte-Pao formed the People's Republic of China...Trotsky was Premier of the Soviets....

It's... weird. We're only on the North American continent (well, Hawii's also a state and we've got a sprinkling of territories also); weirder still we call ourselves "Americans", which the people in Latin America are somewhat resentful of.

Are there any other superpowers?

Soviet Union used to be until it collapsed 1991 (btw, it's 2010 here, what year is it where you're from?)

Here's the breakdown:

Zte-Pao formed the People's Republic of China

For us, it was Mao Tse-Tung; here's a picture:

Trotsky was Premier of the Soviets....

Does Josef Stalin ring a bell then? I assume Lenin would...

Does the U.S. occupy the whole continent??

The U.S.S.R. (the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics) fell apart in late 1990 when its 15 republics separated form the Motherland

OK, the religious breakdown looks the same, except Islam is down to about 17/18% (there was a plague that spread via the Hijirah in, like, the 1970's.)

Weird, Zte-Pao looks like Mao Tse-Tung....
And yes, Lenin is the man that started the Russian Revolution, overthrowing the Russian monarchy and installing the world's first communist nation.
