When was the latest time a WW2 vet could have become Potus ?

Well, here is a little known fact (and surely a huge technicality), in that someone born in the early 1970's could meet the criteria of "WWII Veteran", if they were awarded the Army of Occupation Medal.

I was one of the guys that the VFW got to join up while on active duty while serving in the US army of occupation of Berlin, back in 1987-1989. My unit didn't get the overseas service ribbon, but instead the black and white and red medal. Technically, as they explained it, we were veterans of a foriegn war (WWII), as a result of serving in occupied territory, which is why we got the AoO medal rather than the OSSR.

I know I would never portray myself as a WWII vet, what with being born nearly 20 years after the last fighting ended, but with politics being what it is, I could well see someone trying to use that for advantage.

In order to qualify as a veteran of the war in the United States, you had to have served on active duty in the US Armed Forces between December 7, 1941 and December 31st, 1946. Mere possession of the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany} during post-hostilities as such has never qualified the recipient to be considered a wartime veteran.
