When could the 22nd Amendment be repealed?

Assuming the 22nd is ratified in 1951 as per OTL, when would be a plausible time for its repeal? The "Great 89th" as LBJ called it, between 1964-6? Must be done between 1965 and 1985.

Nixon talked of a third term. So you could have him manage, with his popularity and no Watergate, to get Congress to overturn it. America is afraid, Nixon gives them some stability, and they're afraid of letting that go because the stability could end.

That gave me an idea for another TL, with the same participants as my current one. Thanks for the brainwave, Your Imperial Majesty ;). FDR will no longer own the record...

??? Congress to overturn it ??? 1) Congress can't. Not by itself. They can propose an new amendment, but then it has to go to the various states, which have to ratify it with a 2/3 or 3/4 majority (I forget the number, but it's large)
2) Why would they want to pass a new amendment to undo a recent one? Off the top of my head, the only amendment to be rescinded by another one was Prohibition which was a disaster.
3) even if you could convince whatever supermajority of Congress to pass the initial thing, how could you possibly convince the states?

My guess is that bringing a frivolous amendment like this would do very serious damage to the party that tried it.

It takes 2/3 of both Houses of Congress and 3/4 of the States to ratify an amendment. As per when this could happen I really don't think anytime since the 22nd Amendments ratification have we seen a concerted effort to repeal it. Yes there was talk from Nixon before Watergate and Dubya before Katrina but nothing really serious.

2/3 majority in both Houses, followed by 3/4 of the states.

REALLY high bar. There is a reason it has only happened 14 times since 1804, including the 21st that overturned the 18th (and one of those, the 27th, was waiting in the system for 74,003 days).

Unless something is clearly an act of Lunacy (say Prohibition), once it is in, it will remain.

In today's political enviroment it is unlikely that you could get ANY amendment passed.

Is there any plausable way to have got 13 states to refuse to ratify the 22nd?

I tend to think that is easier than its repeal.

Na Ga Happen.

Particularly not under LBJ, who theoretically could have served for more than nine years.

Bill Clinton has spoken seriously of repealing that term limit, because "people [i.e. ex-presidents] are now living longer."

I don't see Mr Hilary getting that reform passed anytime soon.

About the only way I see this taking place is if a repeal of the 22nd amendment was part on of an amendment for something else. Say as part of the 25th. Otherwise I don't see support for just repealing the 22nd alone.
